Edison from Detroit

Edison from Detroit

Edison + Detroit + Motor City vibes + Bon Bon Bon. "These are a few of my favorite things!" But really though... How do all these elements end up in one picture to make the best photo ever?! And if you're new to Detroit things, I'll break it down for you (as best as I can).

Edison and Detroit - According to DTE recordsIn 1879, Thomas Alva Edison invented the incandescent lamp, and in 1883, the incandescent light bulb made its first Detroit appearance at Metcalf Brothers dry goods store. Following this, in 1886, the Edison Illuminating Co. of Detroit was organized and began serving its first customers.  As outlined on DTE's website, by the turn of the century, the Edison Illuminating Co. and the Peninsular Electric Light Co. (which owned the electric distribution franchise in the area) provided all commercial electric lighting and power in the city of Detroit.

In January 1903, Detroit Edison purchased securities of the two companies and incorporated on January 17, 1903. That same year, construction began on the Delray 1 power plant, and Henry Ford, who had left Edison Illuminating four years earlier, founded Ford Motor Co.

Skip to, Motor City! The place that put the world on wheels, we have a special place in our heart for those mechanical things. So Edison's outfit is perfectly on brand for his "I'm a Detroiter" look.

And last but certainly not least to top this oh-so-Detroit look off - Bon Bon Bon. Our company that hails from Motor City and hand makes good chocolate for good people is proud to be "Detroit based." In fact, when we started this whole thing, our founder, Alex Clark, searched high and low for cities to start her dream chocolate shop in. And when it all came down to it, nothing felt more right than pursuing her dream in the place that helped foster it - Detroit.

So thank you, Edison, for getting it. Or maybe you don't just quite yet because you're only 4. But you will someday. And for now, we love that it at least looks like you do ;)

See you around Detroit, Edison!
