S'more Bon Bon

S'more Bon Bon

I think we can all agree that the invention of the S’more most likely was the ingenious idea of someone no more than 10 years old. I mean there is no way an adult would have come up with the idea to stick an ooey, gooey piece of chocolate and a slightly charred marshmallow between two pieces of graham cracker and label it dessert. According to National Geographic magazine the s’more’s long yet vague history, dates back at least to 1927 when a recipe for the more formally designated “some mores” appeared in "Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scout". There is also a debate that the campfire staple has its origins in the Victorian era when desserts like sandwich cookies and sponge cakes filled with jams, curds, and creams were a hot pick. (For more on the History of the S’more check out this article from Adventure Journal: The Mystery History of S'mores)

Honestly, where the origins of some of our favorite sweet things is intriguing we’re just glad this was ever dreamed up. Can you even think about camping or summer nights without the joy of carefully and methodically twisting a twig with a marshmallow on the tip until it is perfectly crispy outside and gooey inside? It’s an art in and of itself. And then the sheer joy of smashing that marshmallow in between the crispy graham cracker, the chocolate spilling over the edges? Ugh, it’s too good! So of course the Babes Babes Babes needed to craft our version of this classic goodie. Where a lot of our flavors are straight out of left field (we know we know, it's kinda our thing) there a lot of sentimental and nostalgic desserts that we feel indebted to tip our hats to. The S’more is one of them.

When we originally started to conceptualize the S’more bon we made our marshmallow from, scratch. But one of the rules of the kitchen at Bon Bon Bon is that recipes have to be both accurate and taste delicious. Where we definitely accomplished the tasty part, the accuracy not so much. So, we started to look for a product that would do the job. And then we find the tiniest, cutest, most perfect itty bitty baby marshmallows that we could put on the top of the bon. The Babes were BEYOND excited. So there it was, the perfect finish to a classic flavored bon- toasted graham, milk chocolate ganache, and a brulee marshmallow ganache, in a handmade milk chocolate shell. This Bon is just like hanging at a campfire but without the mess (or lack of showers). If you're feeling extra, you could melt it and use it as the chocolate for your next campfire s'more. Can one be extra extra?
