The High Five itself is understood to have originated between Glenn Burke and Dusty Baker of the LA Dodgers in 1977. Burke, one of the first openly gay professional athletes, went on to POP-ularize the gesture as a symbol of inclusivity among the residents of the Castro District in San Francisco. The rest is history!
The Hi Five Pop is also handy for patting a friend on the back, palm reading, and pointing out the location of Detroit on the Mitten State.
