~Behind the Bon~
Ever wonder what happens when a group of Babes Babes Babes get loose in a chocolate kitchen with a whole lot of tempered chocolate? Welcome to the Bon Bon Bon lab! We’re not just making chocolate... we’re engineering itty bitty masterpieces right in the heart of Detroit🏙️💖
Good chocolate shouldn't be exclusive, but it should be perfect. Grab your hairnet (metaphorically) and let’s take an extended look behind the scenes of our Hamtramck manufactory!

Step 1: The Shell
When you think of a Bon, you think of that first bite-- the solid shell that holds it all together. The first step to these beauties is the making of a shell.
We manipulate the temperature of our chocolate to ensure that when you bite in, you get that satisfying snap and a glossy finish. We pour melted chocolate into our "Bon-jour" molds and let the vibrations meld all the chocolate in place.
After waiting a few minutes in our cold facility, this chocolate has cooled enough to dump the excess out, leaving just a shell in each of the molds. We put this to the side and move on to the next step!

Step 2: The Filling (Where the Magic Happens)
This is where we get weird—in the best way possible. Our kitchen looks more like a mad scientist's lab than a traditional chocolate shop!
-
Ganaches: Silky smooth mixtures of chocolate and cream😋 Some of our funkiest containing olive oil, graham crackers, and doughnuts!
-
Giandujas: All kinds of nutty mixtures: our pistachio in the Mustachio, walnut in the Pudge Frownie, and hazelnut in the Hazel-What?
-
Caramels: Perfect sweetness complimenting their counterparts. We have caramels with whiskey, Moscato... we even had a chicken fat caramel at one point!
- Confitures: The classic jam that is tart, sweet, and in between depending on the Bon. We have cherry, yuzu, strawberry, and anything else the season calls for🌻
(And don't worry, we've got those classic flavors too😉
Step 3: Decoration
Now for the fun bit! We use lots of different varieties of decor when it comes to our Bons. Some get our signature Bon Bon Bon medallion, while some receive adorable hand piped designs... and don't forget about the glitter!
For our colored Bons, we have edible paint that we get to spray on before we do the rest. For the Bons with medallions, those are then placed. Finally the extra sprinkles, dried flowers, or feuilletine get added, and the Bon is ready for packing!

Step 4: The Signature Packaging
A Bon isn't a Bon until it’s tucked into its iconic cardboard home. We don't do fancy gold foil or plastic inserts-- we keep it classic and easy. Our packaging is sustainable and distinctly Detroit. Every box is packed with care, ensuring your treats are looking as good as they taste!

Detroit in Action
Boston Cooler
Our Bon of the month is a great example! We make this Bon with a dark chocolate shell and a perfect buttercream-- with a Detroit staple: Vernor's!
Better Butter Crunch
Our Better Butter Crunch starts with the classic Detroit Better Made chips-- and just like they used to make their chocolate covered potato chips, we're pairing milk chocolate with their treats! It’s crunchy, it’s salty, and it’s a tribute to the city we call home.
Bumpy
Another classic Michigan staple: the Bumpy cake! We've made a ganache mixed with real chocolate cake, topped with our buttercream in that classic bumpy style🍰

Want to See it in Person?
Reading about it is one thing, but smelling the toasted sugar, roasted nuts, and premium cocoa in the air is another level entirely. If you're looking for a fun experience, we’d love to have you stop by our retail spaces.
While our production floor is a high-speed zone of chocolate mahem, our shops offer a front-row seat to the show without the hassle! Check out our Visit Us page for shop locations, hours, and directions to find your next favorite treat.
Stay Sweet, Detroit!
